As a SIRPA trained Pain Coach, I can educate, guide and support people with a Neuro-Physiological Disorder (NPD), also referred to as TMS, to equip them with the tools necessary to understand and overcome the root of their pain.
The therapy, through an empowering psychological approach, aims to bring permanent recovery. All you need is an open mind and to be prepared to take an active role to take charge of your health.
My holistic approach is based on the latest neuroscience findings about neuro-physiological disorders and is also backed by my personal experience of chronic pain over the past fifteen years.
You will start to understand your own life from a nervous system and physiological perspective. Without this education, it can be difficult to see what needs changing and this is the reason a lot of sufferers remain stuck.
Having the right kind of support during your healing journey is also essential.
When you truly understand the root cause of your symptoms, I will help you use the tools and knowledge so that you can unlearn your pain/symptoms and get back to an active rewarding life.
The way this method works differs greatly from traditional or other holistic treatments as it requires the people to take an active role in their recovery. It gives them back the power to treat the cause of chronic pain rather than the symptom in isolation.
his means they will stop relying on external factors (like certain diets, certain medicines, certain stretches, etc) to find relief. Of course anyone (whether in pain or not!) can only but benefit from eating a healthy diet and including some form of exercise in their life! But what I mean is, unless we do the internal work ourselves and learn why and how our chronic symptoms keep being generated, we won’t be able to identify our pain triggers and then teach ourselves how to break the cycle.

Remember this is not about pain relief, it’s about long-term recovery. You CAN overcome chronic pain even if you have suffered for months or years!
Please note that this approach does not deal with the medical aspects of pain like medication, physical therapy or treatments, and it does not apply to conditions that are not due to TMS. It can help you if you’ve been trying to heal from pain without success, and serious medical conditions, such as infection, fracture, an immune disorder, cancer or any other organ disease, have been excluded.
I would suggest you educate yourself a little to begin with. You can dig in my Resources section where I have compiled some educational videos, websites, articles, and a bibliography. The more you understand about the science behind it, the quicker your recovery will be able to take place.
You can then so that we discuss your situation.
Some people feel that after the first (longer) session, they would like to try the healing process ‘solo’, having gathered enough understanding and feeling confident about diving in. And that’s absolutely fine!

Most people, who are new to this, will find that they will need some guidance through the process of healing. Chronic pain and persistent symptoms can breed a lot of loneliness and confusion and having someone who is able to hold your hand and lead you through this journey can be invaluable.
We can totally improvise on how many sessions you will need/want and you can book as you progress at your own pace. I would recommend weekly sessions to keep up the momentum until you no longer need help, but you will not need to commit in advance.
What could stop this approach to work?
Some people tend to hold mind and body well apart. It will be very hard to heal if you don’t truly believe that there are very strong connections between your physical and emotional functioning. It is very hard to believe in something if we don’t fully understand it, and I insist again on the importance of educating yourself by investigating my resources section to start with.

Lack of support from your family, friends, or doctor, can also be a hinder… It can be hard if they scoff at what you are doing… and (unwillingly) act as a nocebo effect.
People’s narrow views about your ‘illness’ shouldn’t stop you having a wider view though!

Lack of motivation and/or energy can make it difficult for you to take charge of your own health. It is quite new for some that this is even a possibility and when in pain, it can be a challenge to gather the energy needed…Hence the importance of support.
Intense feelings and emotions can be stored underneath your physical symptoms. Being prepared to face them can be challenging at times too.
I aim to create a relaxed, caring and empathetic environment, which allows people to feel safe and comfortable when exploring the various factors associated with their pain. Everything shared during sessions and communication between sessions is 100% confidential.

I offer on-line or in-person 1:1 sessions (1hour) £60
First assessment session (1hour 30 minutes) £75
I strongly feel it is very important that people don’t feel ‘restricted’ to a weekly one-hour session during their healing journey and this is why I offer unlimited (within reason) free email access between sessions.
As a member of SIRPA, I can give people free access to the Curable App for 6 weeks.
Curable is a TMS recovery App, focused on teaching you about pain/brain science and giving you tools and exercises to work through healing TMS.

A mobile app for treating mindbody disorders at the level between a great PPD book and a session with a PPD Practitioner. Several of the PPDA Board members are also on Curable’s Scientific Advisory Board.
